Garden of Eden

Happy Earth Day!
Sunday, April 22, 2012

What brings you joy on this amazing blue/green Earth?
What do you do each day to care for it?

Poem by Judy Chicago
adapted by Laura Evonne Steinman

And then all that has divided us will merge
And then compassion will be wedded to power
And then softness will come to a world that is harsh and unkind
And then (all people) will be gentle
And then (all people) will be strong
And then no person will be subject to another's will
And then all will be rich and free and varied
And then the greed of some will give way to the needs of many
And then all will share equally in the Earth's abundance
And then all will care for the sick and the weak and the old
And then all will nourish the young
And then will cherish life's creatures
And then all will live in harmony with one another and the Earth
And then everywhere will be called Eden once again.

We'll be planting Eden at ASC on Sunday!

Movement is a must, a moment is also

Movement is a MUST!

In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you.
Deepak Chopra

 In our world of movement
from one place to another;
walking ,
biking,
moving on our feet to school
and friends houses,
classes and work,
church and girl scouts;
how do you keep stillness?

Take a moment in the middle of the movement,
sort of like in music and take a pause, a break , a breath.

For when we take the moment
in our movement we become whole.
And we must be whole for all the hard creative work we are called to do
in this ever hurting world.

commUNITY

commUNITY!

This song is available on Jack Hartmann's Cool Beats That Teach.

(Chorus)
Community
We are so proud to be
Community
Stand up, clap and say
Community
Look all around you’ll see
People working, playing, helping
All together they are making it better
Let’s spell it together!
Com-mu-ni-ty
Com-mu-ni-ty
Com-mu-ni-ty
We all work together to make it better
Repeat Chorus
We’ve got teachers, doctors, farmers, soldiers, cooks
Lifeguards, lawyers, coaches, painters, plumbers
Maids, bakers, pilots, nurses, guitar players
Police officers, firefighters, postal workers, bus drivers
Judges, grocers, cowboys, miners don’t forget
Songwriters!
Com-mu-ni-ty
Com-mu-ni-ty
Com-mu-ni-ty
We all work together to make it better
Repeat Chorus

We'll be building, sharing and adding onto our CRE community neighborhood this Sunday!

What does commUNITY look like to you?

Write a poem, draw a picture, share!

Walking Wonder

Laura and youth in Haiti, Summer 2011
Have you done a walking Meditation before?
If so, how did it make you feel inside?
If not Try it today!

Guided Walking Meditation
by: Susan Helene Kramer
Santa Barbara, California USA
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
published by Creations in Consciousness

This meditation has 2 parts that combine to energize the body and coordinate mind-body (thinking-moving):
1. Even breathing.
2. Walking with arms and legs in opposition.
Walk briskly while swinging arms easily back and forth. When the left foot steps forward, the right arm swings forward. And, when the right foot steps forward the left arm swings forward.
Example of breathing pattern to follow:
Count 1: breathe in
Count 2: breathe out
Count 3: breathe in
Continue…

More benefits of walking:
Walking meditation is an opportunity to think over problems and possible solutions. When deciding how to act about a problem choose the way that is a good outcome for everyone; a win-win situation. It is also an opportunity to think about and plan new projects, and think about short term and long range goals.
And, regular walking is an exercise that is recommended by medical science to be good for health.
To finish, stretch arms overhead; bring arms down to sides; resume other activities.
